Hey Bubba,

In 1978 Monza was not the last race. It was followed by the US and Canadian
races (Gilles' first win), though it was at Monza where Peterson's death
made Mairo world champ.

Mairo? Ayup... on Saturday night at Watkins Glen some fans who were
possibly not completely sober got onto the track and between turns eight
(heel of the boot) and nine they tried to paint "Go Mario" on the track.
Unfortunately, they painted "Go Mairo" instead. Close... real close.

Hey Ed: No the had the misfortune of being the #2 driver on Lotus when Mario
won. A weird similarity to Phil Hill when he won the WC in 1961 for Ferrari.
In both years the 2 leading drivers going into the last race were teamates
who all had a chance of winning the title. Hill and Taffy von Tripps and
Mario and Peterson. In both years, the last race was run at Monza and both
years the Americans won not only the race but the WC, plus both
teamate-rivals were killed at the start of the race. Tripps on the second
lap and Peterson on the grid at the start of the race. WEIRD!

Yer pal, Ferrari Bubba

I remember there was a lot of respect for Ronnie Petersen during his career,
but I can't recall if he ever won an F-l world championship or not. I know
you'll know.
