Hey Ed: No the had the misfortune of being the #2 driver on Lotus when Mario won. A weird similarity to Phil Hill when he won the WC in 1961 for Ferrari. In both years the 2 leading drivers going into the last race were teamates who all had a chance of winning the title. Hill and Taffy von Tripps and Mario and Peterson. In both years, the last race was run at Monza and both years the Americans won not only the race but the WC, plus both teamate-rivals were killed at the start of the race. Tripps on the second lap and Peterson on the grid at the start of the race. WEIRD!
