Had a good time.. yes it was hot. Very hot! And without the side benefit
of Montreal in the heat (French Canadian women wearing practically
nothing...). At least two of the grid girls apparently succumbed to the
heat.

Went karting at Fastimes - nice place, two-level track, lines were a little
long, though the workers were quite efficient and cycled drivers very well.
Whiteland Raceway(to the south) was closed due to having just been sold and
the new karts not yet on site. New Castle karting looks like a great track,
but being 30 miles east of the loop on 70 just made it a non-option for this
year.

Had a nice meal at one of the oldest restaurants in town (Ambrosia in the
Broad Ripple area). And... met up with the folks at f1weekly.com on Friday
night.

And.. trolled the vendors for candidates for the national meet in August.

Now, if we could only get our team on top...

Hello Friends,
Quick comment on this year's F1 race at Indy.
Because of experience, I was assigned to the pit-in
flag station, just up pit road from the pits. I
worked this station except for F1 qualifying where I
assisted the FIA folks scrutinizing the cars after
their hot laps. Pit-in is a fun assignment!
It was really hot everywhere, even in the shade.
Air temp was about 95F and track temperature exceeded
130 F. This was my 6th year to work the race and
without doubt, the hardest. In fact, I had been
fighting a stomach bug all weekend. Friday and
Saturday were okay but something less than fun. (Ever
try to get out of a full-body jump suit in a hurry -
if you catch my drift?) Sunday morning my 'bug'
peaked and I let my self get a little dehydrated. The
result was that I worked the first two races but then
went down hard(along with another few marshals) before
the F1 race. :-( I watched the F1 race on TV feeling
guilty as my fellow marshals suffered in the sun. It
was a little reassuring to learn that I was not the
only seasoned marshal to succumb to the elements.
