Don;t forget, 456 aint all that sporty. Sort of a big heavy 550 with a back seat. The auto is not that great of a mate to the 12 - often seems to want a different gear than it has when driven hard, but pretty sweet when driven as a "touring car" which is really what the 456 was meant to be. The 6 speed lets you wring more out of the motor, but the suspension is pretty soft for any serious driving. Either one is decent, it really depends what you want and expect from the car.

Bolting a torque coverter slushbox to a Ferrari V12 is kind of like
dating a pole dancer but taking away her cocaine. The ride response
becomes considerably more muted... you gotta make allowances for that
"certain sporty nature"!
