If I recall correctly (and I may not) Las Vegas Raceway was designed with F1 in mind, as it was proposed to bring F1 to Vegas well before the USGP at Indy. It makes sense logistically, as naturally LV can lodge numerous visitors to the race, and offers nightlife and activity for foreign visitors as well, as I would see the appeal of vegas to visit for a week as opposed to Indy...
