Car related, but not specifically F-car content

The recent New England snow provided an opportunity to test the ice melting cable that my son and I installed in a shady part of my driveway. The cable is 1300' of 16ga. UF spaced on 2" centers and sandwiched between the 2.5" basecoat and the 1.5" topcoat of the blacktop. The reel of cable I found on eBay was about 2% of the cost of commercial, direct burial, ice melting mats. The circuit draws approx. 43amps at 240v. That works out to about 50w. per sq. ft.

When the test started there was about 2" of refrozen rain soaked snow on the driveway's surface and the outside temperature was in the low twenties. It took about 3 hrs. to thaw and evaporate the icy mix to dry pavement. The intended use is to prevent that section of sun starved driveway from accumulating ice from roof runoff water and turning into a skating ring. Normal operating conditions will usually be with an outside temperature of 30-40F.

There's only so much you can talk about Ferraris...let alone CARS itself.

F1 season is over, and if you remove tech talk, what is there to talk about?

Consider that the f-list is truly a family...cultivated in the late '90s and
mostly the same today. So just think about what that means...we've all
talked about a lot of stuff, F related..

And thanks to a young FG who probably asked all that can be asked about
Ferrari (and car) related stuff until he ran out of things to ask, everyone
got a chance to air out their opinions too.

Is it something that 7-10 years ago , F list membership meant 50-100 emails
a day, and now it's what...3-5? There's probably a reason for that.

I'm all up good ferrari content, but its harder to come by. I think good car
comparison talk would be a good direction.

And for obligatory F-content:

WTF happened to Titanium Cavallino knobs & gates? Jenkins?

Really, are we this sad? Are we going to see lengthy dissertations from
surely-duly-accredited-authorities on why such-and-such a caliber is
better/worse instead of talking about, oh, I don't know: Top Gear has a
review of the Scuderia v Nissan GT-R, Lewis Hamilton tries to beat the
Stig,
Schumacher blows off Massa's wedding, and this is what we're reduced to?

No wonder why this list is dying.
