It once was a lively email list that had lots of posts, almost all of which
was somehow related to Ferrari. And those that weren't were a small
fraction of the traffic. Enough so that the appeal outweighed the OT and
junk.

I too have friends out here. If it's something interesting that I want to
share with them and not Ferrari-related (or at least car-related), I take
the effort to email them privately.

Yes, Marty is right, there is definitely a core community here.

But those of us that are active in the community should not be so selfish as
to drive away those who are not.

Think about it - at one point, I think FList was above 800 members, maybe
more (SteveC can correct met). Dunno what the current number is, but is
very probably less than that, perhaps much less.

And how many are in the "core" community?

If I count heads (you too can do this, go take a look at the archive and see
who has made recent posts), I arrive at less than three dozen, with perhaps
half that being really active.

And think about that - if you want to ping your 12-18-30 good "FList
friends", you're sending your off-topic posts to HUNDREDS of others who may
not care.

This is an interesting comment from Dennis.
I originally came here in '99 for the Ferrari related info and have stayed
around because of the 'cast of characters'. Admittedly, I get all my tech
info from FChat these days.
Are you suggesting that we try to bring the list back to what it once was?

>Is it something that 7-10 years ago , F list membership meant 50-100 emails
a day, and now it's what...3-5? There's probably a reason for that.

=============

Primarily, because FChat did not exist back then. And now that it does, for
the hundreds - yes, hundreds - of otherwise quiet lurkers who subscribed to
this list for Ferrari content, but instead have to wade through voluminous
off topic posts, it's much easier to just unsubscribe and join FChat and get
all of the Ferrari-related content they want.

Email lists like this one can thrive only if we continually add new members.
Do you really think that someone just joining now and seeing how much of
list volume is dedicated to "insiders" and their personal references and
off-topic posts will decide to stick around?

Fellippe, you're right, there is a little "community" here, but while that
community may be great for those of us that are active in it, it is DRIVING
AWAY those who are here for FERRARI related content.

BTW, another lister pointed out to me (I missed it entirely) that your
original post was made likely tongue-in-cheek due to the "308" in the
caliber measurement. While we can appreciate your tangential reference in
an attempt to liven up a moribund winter list day, you have to know that it
will stir up the usual folks in posting about cartridges and rifles and guns
etc. etc. etc. etc.

car comparison talk would be a good direction.

Agreed! So let's talk about the Scuderia v GT-R. Heck, let's talk about
the new M3, or the IS-F, or the new Jag. The DBS v the 599? Helio winning
on DWTS? Debut of the COTY? Alonso sitting out for the year? The entry of
the GT-R into racing next year, possibly against the 430GT? The new GT2 on
the 'ring, compared to the Scuderia? Resale values on the 360CS?

If you're really looking to stir the pot, there are a LOT of topics you can
pick.
