Ken it's unfortunately a very socialist climate up here.

I'm well aware of it. I was born in MN but my brother was found beneath a cabbage in AB. Still there, along with sundry nephews etc.

Did you know that:

Americans are citizens, Canadians are subjects

The Crown is the holder of public lands as well as the wealth under the ground and beneath the sea: not the people.

I knew that. Here in TX there is no public land whatsoever. The biggest difference between us I have noticed is property rights. Originally the Declaration of Independence said "Life, :Liberty and Property". A lot of our current dilemmas would be easily resolved if we just adhered to that. For instance I am not a smoker, but have no wish to stop others from doing so. My demanding 'smoke-free' regulations subverts smoker's freedoms. The issue is best solved by property rights. I may choose SmokeLess Airlines - another may frequent Bob's Cigar Bar. Everyone is happy. Each property owner makes his own choices based on what he perceives as best.

Aha! Many will say - but now I am taxed to pay for your lung cancer. My answer is - that is not a problem of property rights, that is a problem of socialism. I have no wish to pay for other's health care through forcible taxation, and if not forced to, then hell you can eat trans-fats all day long! Watch me not care!

It is the Crown that prosecutes criminal cases not the people.

It is the Crown that dispenses awards and honors.

If it gets any crazier up here there will be another exodus and the only people left will be government employees. Right now I think they already make up 1/3 of the workforce.... OUCH.

Yes another huge difference - even with our bloated leviathan FedGovCo the US public sector is only about a third of the GNP. To date America remains an ocean of private enterprise with islands of government. In Canada the pyramid is upside down, more than half the GNP is government of all stripes. And FedGovCo consumes, it never produces. Without your vast resources to export you would soon go broke, as it is your economy is much sounder than ours in many ways.

Here's the thing I can never understand: in Houston today was typical - about 70^F and sunny. Maybe we are conservative here but there is little evidence of mass global warming hysteria. One of my nephews lives in Saskatoon - he is freezing his buns off, But up there there is near-panic. Why? Would it be so horrible if all the Warmistas were right and Saskatchewan winters got a bit shorter, spring came in April instead of June? Whenever I hear this stuff I ask them: what is the ideal temperature anyhow? Are you really anxious to be colder than you are now?

Another mystery of life. Why did I sell my 328? Why do fools fall in love?

ooooo wah, oooooo wah, ooooo wah, oooooo wah,
ooooo wah, oooooo wah, Why do fools fall in love

Why do birds sing so gay
And lovers await the break of day
Why do they fall in love
Why does the rain fall from up above
Why do fools fall in love
Why do they fall in love

Why do they write songs about Texas, but never about Ontario? Why was my 260 HP 328 GTB so much more fun than my 400 HP 993 Twin Turbo? Why I am rusting on the outside but still a kid under the skin? Hell if I know!

My very best

ken
