Good story Brian! Thanks for sharing -
No doubt yours is one of the 1.5MM to 3MM defensive uses of guns that occur every year - with the vast majority never being reported. I guess it would make a pretty boring news program.
This incident also shows how a situation can change from safe to dangerous at a moments notice - and if you did not have a gun handy you might not be here in the same condition, if at all. As you have showed, it's better to show mercy than to rely on the mercy of criminals.
It's a good thing your handgun was nearby and not locked in the glovebox or unloaded in the truck - a lot of good it does there as some politicians (who usually have armed body guards) would like to see things.
Someone made the *excellent* point that they had not been accosted in 30 or 40 years and didn't feel they needed to carry a gun, which is probably the case for many of those on this list - unfortunately Brian's situation shows how easily a normal situation can turn dangerous.
Given the *huge* number of small businesses - many of whom make cash drop deposits after hours at banks 100's of thousands if not millions, of times a day, the need for concealed carry becomes obvious.
And if you're driving a Ferrari (content) you might look more like a target in some criminals eyes than of you were driving a Yugo --
;-)

I was making a night deposit one night at the local bank and had two guys come up behind me and demand the money I was depositing plus a hefty withdrawal from the ATM located behind us. I turned around, informed them that I carried a weapon and that I felt very threatened and that I would use deadly force if necessary. One of the guys began to take a step towards me and I pulled my Walther PPK-S from its holster and they both turned and ran immediately. Never had to fire at anyone though and that was the only time I have actually had to remove a weapon from its holster. Have had some road rage idiots get out of their vehicles though, and all it took was for me to inform them that I had a weapon in my vehicle. I usually carry either my PPK-S, a Glock 23 .40 cal, or a Browning Hi-Power. The Browning usually stays in my night stand though. With either my Mossberg short barrel / pistol grip12 ga. or my Franchi SPAS-12 under my bed!

Hi Guys
Reading through this thread has made me curious as to whether any of you has
ever needed to use your weapon in a true self defense situation?
It's funny, but up here in the Northeast, I don't think that I know more
than maybe one person who carries a weapon regularly other than my friends who
are cops. Maybe I hang out in all the wrong places, but this whole area, New
York City included, is a comparatively low crime area and the number of
incidents between strangers is fairly rare. I just wouldn't think that carrying
would be a big necessity.
BTW, I'm asking just because I'm curious. I'm a big proponent of the 2nd
Amendment and I don't have any issues whatsoever with people's desire to own
and carry guns. I do have a little bit of experience with guns in that I'm a
former recreational trap shooter and did get trained for a pistol permit
several years ago, handling a variety of pistols.

Clyde,
You're talking to a bunch of Ferrari Guys, don't preach to use about what we
"need", that is obviously irrelevant, or we would all be driving Hondas!
All hail Ferraris and M203/M40 "bloopers"! ;-)

Whats worse is that most people buy more weapon than they need!
