I "kinda" needed it one time so far.

My phone rang in the car as I was driving home from church with my (at the
time) wife and two young daughters. It was the alarm company, and they were
informing me that the alarm was sounding at our house. I was only two
minutes from home, and when I pulled up to the house, the alarm was still
ringing and the front door was wide open.

I was feeling very protective of the three women in my car, and was not
about to let them enter a house that I thought might have a burglar in it. I
pulled around in the driveway, pointed the car away from the house and
toward the street, told my wife to get in the driver's seat, keep the engine
running and the girls strapped in, and that if anyone but me walked out of
the house that she should drive away as fast as she could.

I un-holstered my pistol, entered the house through the front door, turned
off the siren, and then got on the intercom. I announced that I had a
weapon, and that I would give whoever was in the house 30 seconds to pick
one of many exits and use it (and I would know if they did, because every
door and window makes a beep when opened or closed).

After a minute with no beeps, I went room to room to "clear" the house
(which is not a small task). The house was empty, and after double checking
every nook and cranny, I came outside to let my family come in.

Still to this day, I don't know if the house was breached, or if perhaps I
had simply not sufficiently locked the front door and the wind blew it in.
Regardless, I was glad to be packing that afternoon.

Hi Guys

Reading through this thread has made me curious as to whether any of you
has
ever needed to use your weapon in a true self defense situation?

It's funny, but up here in the Northeast, I don't think that I know more
than maybe one person who carries a weapon regularly other than my friends
who
are cops. Maybe I hang out in all the wrong places, but this whole area,
New
York City included, is a comparatively low crime area and the number of
incidents between strangers is fairly rare. I just wouldn't think that
carrying
would be a big necessity.

BTW, I'm asking just because I'm curious. I'm a big proponent of the 2nd
Amendment and I don't have any issues whatsoever with people's desire to
own
and carry guns. I do have a little bit of experience with guns in that
I'm a
former recreational trap shooter and did get trained for a pistol permit
several years ago, handling a variety of pistols.

Clyde,
You're talking to a bunch of Ferrari Guys, don't preach to use about what
we
"need", that is obviously irrelevant, or we would all be driving Hondas!

All hail Ferraris and M203/M40 "bloopers"! ;-)

Whats worse is that most people buy more weapon than they need!
