When we (Ric Rainbolt and me) restored my 308GTB we found some degree of rust on EVERY STEEL PANEL after it was media blasted! That was 5-6 years ago and the car probably hasn't seen rain twice since the repaint. Here's a look. It will scare the bejesus out of you! http://www.aubard.us/Ferrari/Strip/

I am a painter and I have done my fair share of panel beating in my time and I can see a direct link to areas in car that collect dirt and grit (inside where you can''t clean) that stay wet for ages and rust starts...
My 308GTB is rust free.... I have not had it wet in a year and it was wet once in the previous 7 years.
I think it does matter. And it I do get it wet I make sure I take it for a long dry drive ASAP to dry out the panels....
