The designer was Tom Tjaarda, an American then working for  
Pininfarina, who also penned the Ferrari 365 Spyder California as well  
as the Ford Detomaso Pantera. He was onstage when that glorious car  
was sold. To this eye the early 60s Italian designs were and remain  
the apex of automotive aesthetics.

Here's something else to like about Ferrari, btw. He makes, what?, 14  
of the 365 California Spyders, then goes on to something else.  
Meanwhile Porsche turns out the same bodyshell for a quarter of a  
century. No wonder we are seduced by Ferraris! Imagine if all women  
looked exactly the same! There's your most effective form of birth  
control, right there.
