Tom:

Well, OF COURSE the cost of ownership should be investigated and is
something to consider before one buys any car....and people should
investigate the problem areas before buying as well, if for no other reason,
to know what they might be getting into!!!!! Certainly, nobody likes to
throw their money away....but Ferraris are thoroughbreds. If people are
stupid enough to stretch themselves to own one, to the point that
maintenance costs become prohibitive for them, and they can't turn a wrench,
then they deserve their fate. There is no cure for stupidity! Maybe I could
buy a used 60 foot SeaRay, but I know I couldn't afford to slip and run
it....so, it is off of the radar screen for me. This isn't rocket science.

Nobody wants to throw money away, but, by most accounts, the confidence
level in a late model Toyota is typically higher than in a late model
Ferrari. So, I stand by my major premise which is that IF maintenance cost
is the buyer's PRIMARY criterion, THEN he should buy a Toyota. I think
Ferraris are about passion. The cost of maintaining them "goes with the
territory". I get bored with the inane whining of some Ferrari owners
regarding the cost of ownership. Clearly, the whiners must own Ferraris for
reasons other than the love of the marque, and if the cost is as overbearing
as some would have you believe, the solution is simple...SELL THE CAR, AND
MOVE ON !!.....and as for the wannabes, who cares????

It looks like I may have stirred the pot a little.
Good!

Tom, thanks for your note.

  Regards

I don't think anyone wants to THROW their money away. And, it's always good
to know the problem areas of a car, like the 456 for example, and the
problems of the 355, etc. Who's to say the Toyota is going to be trouble
free (as in your example)? Now, obviously, cost of ownership is not what
most people would really worry about when they decide to BUY a Ferrari, but
it is, IMO, something that should always be, at least, considered along with
everything else in the buying decision.
