Bob, et al., 

I have found, as Bob has pointed out, that Ferrari
sometimes chooses the most complex and arcane
solutions to common automotive engineering problems. 
And these are not performance solutions, just
awkwardly complex solutions.  Perhaps the designers
didn't subscribe to automotive engineering journals?
