I have heard this a couple of times, but I don't know how much truth there
is to it one way or the other.  I personally don't do it.  I have my hand on
the wheel, or if at a stoplight, resting on my leg.  I've seen ppl do it and
it always looks uncomfortable to me.  My personal feeling is, change gears
and once the job is done, hands back up on the wheel if the car is in
motion.
