It would be hard to beat the seal swelling properties of trans fluid itself. I would go with a seal change as well.

Where is it leaking?

Pan gasket? (which would be easy to fix)
Input seal? (Minor difficulty to change - tranny pro
could do it in 1/2 day on a "regular" car. 400i, I don't know)
Tail housing seal? (should be easy to change.)

Unfortunately, most TH400 leaks that I've seen were in the
input.

I don't know of a 'stop leak' product that I would trust, but
try getting an estimate from a tranny shop. It might not be
that bad.

Hans.

Hi Guys,

The 400i has had a very slight leak in the automatic transmission for the
past 4 years. It messes up the garage. I do not want to strip out the tranny
(had enough on this car it it works perfectly). Is there any such thing as a
tansmission leak stopper I could try. Its a GM 400 series auto box. Over here in
the UK not so common but seeing as they made millions of them for the states
can anyone advise if there is a "leak stopper" in a can I can try that
wouldn't damage the transmission. Kind of like Bars Leak (which does work!) but
for a tranny.

Thanks for you thoughts.
