I always thought bullfights were overrated (IMO of course) - as you said
watching <<one of God's creatures being slowly tortured to death >> doesn't
hold much attraction for me. But those carefree Romans did it for years -
both human and animal - and bullfighting has gone on for a loooong time so
someone must be enjoying it. Probably not the bull. ;-)
I know there's some that call it a sport but I can't bring myself to consider it that. I'm sure the amount of skill needed to do it properly is high and the ability to stay in the arena when a 2000# extremely anger animal wants to do you great harm requires great bravery.
But don;t they dull the points of the bulls horns or cut the ends off so they're flat? I've seen video where the bull gets hold of the fighter and either gores them or stomps them - I;m sure being gored is unpleasant but when they get stomped on the BF usually jumps up an scurries off to safety. I would have thought being stomped by something that big would cause considerable damage regardless of where they get you -

I forgot how I did it, but I got a pass for two for the Premiere Showing of the film Grand Prix, held?on Sunset Blvd. in Hollywood. I think my name tag said William Randolph Hearst Jr. Who was I to argue? Anyway, it was held in the Cine-dome, or what ever that Buckmaster Fuller looking theater of the future was called back then.
Being a Grand Prix racing nut ever since I saw the Kirk Dougles movie, 'The Racer' in the mid 1950's, to say that I was impressed would be an understatment. I only wished I had worn a diaper that night, if you know what I mean.
Because we (the Hearld-Examiner) ran a bullfight column every Sunday in season, we had a comp. box down in Tijuana. Both the ring downtown and the one by the sea. By chance, the box next to ours was leased to some drunken Hollywood bums like Kirk Douglas, Fernando Lamas, Gilbert Roland, Ceasar Romero and that gang of fun lovers looking for some cheap thrills.
Those?summer Sunday afternoons were like a 3-ring circus. You didn't know where to look first! The fight down in the ring, the poor tourists from back East that had no concept that they would be watching one of God's creatures being slowly tortured to death right before their eyes, screaming and fainting in the stands, the drunken Hollywood types groping the 'starlets' that they had brought along for some fun & games, or after a good clean kill, the young college-type girls that would take off their panties and throw them down to the young and hansome Matador in the ring, holding at least the ears. Ever the Latin Gentleman, he would sniff them and throw them back.
Ach, those were the days, Ferrari Bubba
