According to the DVD's making of, filming the Monaco sequence was tricky
because Onasis owned half the town and would not give permission to film his
half when they had permission to film
the other half.

ca Ken sez "The F1 cars in the movie are mostly mocked-up Formula 3 cars made to look like contemporary F1 models, although the film also used footagefrom actual F1 races."
Ahhh, yesh - that is UNTIL the last race. When the filming started - the
actors were treated rather poorly as their predecessors on the celluloid
race tracks (The Green Helmet et all) had made a hash of the sport - but as
the movie progressed and egos flared - the real drivers chimed in - HEY, how
do WE get in this thing? And there you have the big rain dance discussion
scene just before the Intermission.
And then the last race, ah yes - the fabulous H-16 on song. Theory being that per cubic engine size, the greater the square piston area the greater the horse power. Up to a point. Ah well, the H-16 sure was interesting. Wonder what ever happened to it.
Yeah, GP, the movie. As with Bullitt - GP marks a motor filming high point - oh not the fru fru - the actual filming.
