Most other car movies were not made by enthusiasts - you got Hot Rods To Hell instead.

Bullitt, GP and Le Mans are the Holy Trinity imho, with Rendevous as an aperitif.
Others I like include Two Lane Blacktop and Vanishing Point.

Just like "Le Mans - The Movie" a film like GP would prove impossible to
replicate. Although, if enough Euro's filled Bernie's palm all kinds of
things
can happen.

Of course, IMHO the era's represented in both movies represented "high
points" in
the sports that have not been surpassed. While the diesel Audi's are
impressive as they
zoom almost silently down the Mulsanne, there's no comparision to the 12 cyl
917's & 330s/512s.

Although, the 312s of the early 70s and the 956/962's were ground breaking
during the 80s & 90s.

The movie The Cruel Sport followed the pro sports car championship of the
early 70s - so we have a (somewhat limited) movie about an important part of
racing history.

I don't believe there is any similar movies for the 956/962 altho there are
some video's of the big racing events from that time frame -

ca Ken sez "The F1 cars in the movie are mostly mocked-up Formula 3 cars
made to look like contemporary F1 models, although the film also used
footage
from actual F1 races."

Ahhh, yesh - that is UNTIL the last race. When the filming started - the
actors were treated rather poorly as their predecessors on the celluloid
race tracks (The Green Helmet et all) had made a hash of the sport - but
as
the movie progressed and egos flared - the real drivers chimed in - HEY,
how
do WE get in this thing? And there you have the big rain dance discussion
scene just before the Intermission.

And then the last race, ah yes - the fabulous H-16 on song. Theory being
that per cubic engine size, the greater the square piston area the greater
the horse power. Up to a point. Ah well, the H-16 sure was interesting.
Wonder what ever happened to it.

Yeah, GP, the movie. As with Bullitt - GP marks a motor filming high
point - oh not the fru fru - the actual filming.
