I am not a politcian, that was nasty :-)
I did not make the origional comment.
I was responding to someone that was complaining about congress did not pass drilling off our coasts.
So I gave my reasons and you are making my points drilling for oil, gas is a crap shoot.
Building a refinery that will have a 25 year life because there is not enough oil to refine will not make the stock holders happy either.
And if they strike oil they WILL sell it on the OPEN MARKET.
I am just tired emails point to this or that will bring back CHEAP fuel.
I have an 89 Geo Metro that I bought new in 1989 that got 50mpg hwy with the air on
and went to replace it and find we have went backwards, then to find out Reagon (the only 2nd president I voted FOR - I vote in every election the other was JFK) reduced the CAFE standards
so I kept the GEO running.
And yes we have mutual funds and yes they have oil stock.
But high fuel costs are bringing eveything down.

Have a good weekend too!

It was written <<1.When the Oil companies use the leases they have I would
support off shore
but not until then.>>

The oi companies bought those leases many years ago - then they sent their
geologist out to see what, if anything, was there and what would the cost be
to extract it.

Would you want them to extract oil that would require a pump price of $10 to
be profitible? Just like you working for a living requires you to make more
than it costs else you;ll be bankrupt. Same for the oil companies - unless
you advocate the govt bailing them out like they did Chrysler and the
borrowers who could not pay their loans?

Not every spot on earth has oil that can be economically extracted and sold.
I don't have an oil well in my back yard and I doubt you do either. Why?
Because the electricity needed to run the pump would cost more then the oil
I;d get.

Let's assume your deed includes mineral rights. If I were to suggest you
drill for oil in your backgroud what would you do? If responsible you'd
find a geologist familiar with oil bearing formations to study the earth
under your house. If theres oil you drill and hope he was right. If not,
do you drill anyway?

That's what you are suggesting the oil companies do - drill regardess? Do
you own any mutual funds? likely it/they have some oil company stock in
them. Are you saying you *want* your stock to go down?

I don't understand why you made that initial comment --- perhaps you're a
politician?

Sorry - no need for me to get mean and nasty -
Have a nice weekend -

1.When the Oil companies use the leases they have I would support off
shore but not until then.
2. Don't expect American Oil not to sell on the open market.
3. Think about it:If your raw materials have gone up and your product has
gone up and you are selling less of your product AND you HAVE RECORD
PROFITS would you increase your supply
of raw materials or build more factories so you produce more product and
make less profit.

Don't think so.

I was in line at a fast food establishment after Katrina and was talking
to an oil man about the $3
gasoline and he said 'I did not see you complain when I was getting $10 a
barrel for my oil.

And remember these are the good days. I am 64 and I expect to see $10 a
gallon b4 I check out.

Ken quoted Tommy Jefferson as saying <<government
those entrusted with power have, in time, and by slow operations,
perverted it into tyranny.>>

It appears we are deep into that process -- as I understand it Pelosi and
gang are so determined to prevent the "Drill Here, Drill Now" movement
from
bringing drilling offshore to a vote they turned the lights off while
Republican senators continued to speak and today I hear some kind of
"compromise" legislation that prevents drilling while showing congress is
doing *something*. Don;t they freakin underrstand what the people want?
Lower prices and energy independence.

Geez, there's 536 morons inside the beltway - all being paid by tax
dollars
and all they do is make a show.

As far as the speed traps - the New Jersey portion of I95 used to have
toll
booths with time stamps on the tickets - rumor has it they checked the
time
to make sure you didn;t move between booths to quickly.

While he didn;t get the timing quite right when he wrote "1984" he seems
to
have the concept pretty well covered.

We are being smothered with governmental "Help". Either in the name of
safety or "For the Children" It''s like LBJs "War on Poverty" - we'd be
better off giving all the poor people $1 mil each and we'd have come out
ahead.

sorry for the rant - everything seems to be going into the crapper at
once -
and the children of gov't take a recess. Not that they;d make things
better
based on past experience.

You are forgetting about the proposed use of our I-Pass/electronic

beat this is to have "two" I-Passes. You just have to remember to
switch them while "pacing" the traffic between "check points".

This was the system on the French AutoRoutes when I was over there a few years back. No I-Pass; they just issued a paper receipt which you presented at the next window to pay. It had the time of printing stamped on it. Between the toll plazas, which were about 30 KM apart, were wonderful roadside parks with benches etc. The prevailing method of driving was to go like Godzilla was right behind you, then pull into les parc for a Gauloise. Once the requisite amount of time had elapsed you resumed driving absolutely flat out all the way to the next toll plaza.

You cannot legislate human behavior.

Experience hath shewn, that even under the best forms of government
those entrusted with power have, in time, and by slow operations,
perverted it into tyranny.
