Also, look at the bushings in the shift linkage ... If one of them have gotten soft or turned to goo, this could be part of the problem.

There is one near the shift lever under the console, the other is under the car towards the rear. The one near the rear, is the one that usually goes.

It's likely a shift linkage problem. The shift shaft (say 3 times fast....)
both moves fore and aft as well as rotates. If the rotational aligment
is not just right, you can have missing gears. Been there, done that.
The adjustment is sort of like a turnbuckle with jam nuts, located
near where the shaft goes into the engine. (Yes, the shaft goes thru
the motor to reach the gearbox.)

I have a 1985 euro 308QV -S (38,000 miles). This morning when I went for a drive in the Ferrari, it was behaving fine for about an hour. Then when taking off from a red light I put it in 1st and when I released the clutch nothing happened. Since there was traffic all around me I shifted into 2nd, and released the clutch, and the gears engaged, and I took off. The car continued to start in first after several stops, then it happened again at a stop sign. I kept shifting from neutral to first with my foot on the clutch and nothing happened when I released the clutch. Again it would start in 2nd, and all other gears worked. Oh yes, reverse also works. This afternoon I took the car out again, and every now and when I shifted into 1st, but nothing would Happen (the gears wouldn't engage).
I've never experienced this before, does anyone have any ideas on what's going on, or how to fix it???

Thank you,
