Re: Weight of Modern Sports Cars

Yeah, all very true Larry. Mercedes is probably being a little cheeky still
using the "SL" name on some models. lol.

Cars are getting bigger as are people. I'm sure added safey items, even if
that comes in the way of heavier doors, stronger A, B and C pillars, etc,
all add up. Add to that, all the added rust proofing and sound deadening
material, and the weight creeps up. Was at the P car dealer last week, and
they had a new GT3 on the floor, equipped with sunroof and a/c. We still
want our sports cars, providing it has perfect a/c, a place to hold our
bucket of Starbucks, and outlets for our cell phone and laptops. hee hee.
And my fave new option, built in neck warmers in the new Mercedes SL. That
way, you can drive later into the Fall and have a warm neck. Umm, ok. How
about, if it's that cold out, PUT the top up!! lol If you really need to
have to top down while it's snowing, do as Jag and Aston owners did for
years, wear a scarf.

I think what today passes for a sports car, would have been called a GT car,
not too many years ago. Of course, Lotus is still keeping the faith. In a
Lotus, you hold your coffee between your legs, and it doubles as a seat
warmer. hee hee.
