On the front bonnet of at least the 308s, that is what they all had (I
think). For the 328s they went to the gas strut for the front bonnet.

I replaced my button release strut with a gas one. The concern is that
someone (obviously not me) might "help" close the front bonnet for you
and not realize that it won't just go down. Take a look at that point
on 308s where the strut connects to the front bonnet and it's not
uncommon to see a little dent from someone trying to close it without
pushing the button.
