Boring exhaust story, was; 308 Euro Exhaust

Hi CG, et al..

I don't have any cool sounding Italian names bolted to my cars so I sad panda.
I am, however, old and with that condition comes the right to tell stories
(multiple times).

My 308GTB has the same stainless exhaust it came with in 1979. It doesn't sound
like any other Ferrari I have ever heard - especially at idle. At full song it
sounds very nice. And thanks to a small leak in a weld where the single chrome
tip attaches, it also whistles at WOT.

The Mondial has a home-made exhaust. It's just the original four outlet tips
plumbed to a pair of Cherry Bombs! Somehow, it soulds like a loud version of a
stock muffler. Its nice. The flat crank helps.

When I bought the car from Matt in 1998, I changed the exhaust to a stock Euro
stainless exhaust I bought from T.Rutlands. Its well made but not polished. It
has that tan-to-brown color of heat altered stainless steel. The loud exhaust,
while nicely agressive, didn"t please the neighbors of South Tulsa.

Dave switched the exhaust back to the louder variant but kept the stock muffler
in storage. When I bought the car last month he delivered it along with the
car. I enjoy early morning drives on the weekend and I now live in a nice
Houston neighborhood - patrolled by HOA-funded police. And as everyone knows,
HOAs are Nazi orginizations. Noise, even nice noise, HOAs and early mornings
don't get along.

I plan to go over the stock exhaust with ScotchBrite and WD40 until its nice
and clean. I'll then polish the chrome tips and install the unit on my car. One
requisit point is that I have to start the car with the muffler removed. Its a
ritual/tradition, one last poke in the HOA's eye I do know better than to
drive it that way. :-P

Happy Saturday morning,

Rick.

I have a Larini on my Lamborghini and like it a lot, although it is less
'Italian' sounding, in my opinion, and more muscle car sounding. It is a
lower, boomier tone. The Diablo has no pre-cats but still has the cats
(done by the previous owner). Great sound, but not much of that shrill
F1 kind of sound.

I have an Ansa on my TR. I think it is the best sounding car I've ever
driven - a very nice balance between being loud enough to be fun without
being grating on long trips, and a great Italian sound to the V12. The
TR has no cats that I can find.

The Larini is much prettier to look at, but you can't see it in the
Diablo. The Ansa doesn't have the high polish of a Tubi, but the quality
seems good.

I like both the Larini and the Ansa FAR better than the Tubi on my 355.
The Tubi was a complete waste, in my opinion, and I'm only holding onto
it until the factory cats fail and I can see how it sounds with
Hyperflows or something similar.

Ok gang,

I have need to replace the Euro muffler on my car.

I am down to two final choices:

i) Ansa, same brand I had on my car which I really liked
ii) Larini, good rep, stainless steel, different sound.

All things being equal (don't factor potential cost differences into the
equation), anyone have a strong recommendation for one over the other?
In particular, anyone have (or heard) a 308 with a Larini?
Comments?
