I never met the old man, who founded Merle Norman Cosmetics I believe, but I kept running into his son Jack in the late '50s. He bought several Ferraris from John von Neumann when he got divorced, including Phil Hill's Times GP winning '59 Ferrari TR 250. At the time, I had press/photo passes for the 1960 Palm Springs Road Races in early January, held out at the airport. Jack was using the race as a tune-up for Sebring which was to be held that April. On the grid, before the race I walked over to him sitting in the car and started to bullshit with him about the car. I had my Nikon SLR, and took a few shots of he and the car. He asked me to take some action shots of him out on the track, and he would pay me. I did and he did. Being a newcomer to Ferraris and their lore, I asked Jack what color red the car was painted. He replied "Kotex Crimson," with a smile on his face. How was I to know? Later, after I bought MY Ferrari, I was looking thru the latest Cavallino and saw that they were doing a series of articles on the 250 TR. I contacted them, and they wrote back and asked for copies of my photos for an upcoming update. I sent the one of Jack, proudly smiling at the camera seated in his yet to be raced 250 TR. I kept looking for the update, but I never saw it. I've got the serial number of the car somewhere, so if any Tifosi want's it, I'll look it up. BTW, Jack later bought a '61 Ferrari GTO that he used as a daily driver=2 0back and forth to UCLA, where he was attending at the time. Talk about your 'Chick Magnet!' Yer pal, Ferrari Bubba -----Original Message----- From: Itsme Subject: Re: Exclusive Membership Invitation I never even heard of the place.
