You can check the AAV if similar to a 911s, and with a bimetal strip, by pulling it and putting it in the freezer. Take it out, leave it at room temp and watch to see if it opens. I think it has an electrical connection too which just speeds the process, but the heat sink from the engine should do the job too. Many of these bosch parts have shot up to crazy prices in that last couple of years, but there are a number of places that rebuild them if you find a problem with one of your parts.
