Nice work Rick. Keep at it, you're getting there! Mine has an issue
with the cold start valve that I have to go after before I put it back
in service in the spring. At least you have good access to the front of
the motor, I can't get my hand in there on my Cab.
I would have attacked it with a brush and Simple Green first, I hate
working on dirty cars :-)

Hey Gang, Today I finished the cleaning and testing of some of my Mondial QV's FI bits. I then reassembled everything and fired the car up. Started easily, idled okay if a little slow, but still has a miss. Haven't gotten into the ignition yet. Here's what I discovered during the clean-up of the AAV. This is the little bugger that adds warm-up air to increase the idle speed. Here's before, http://www.aubard.us/Mondial/HPIM1316.JPG and after, http://www.aubard.us/Mondial/HPIM1350.JPG . You can see that the AAV has been cleaned up and the nasty oil mess has been cleaned from the coolant reservoir. I have NOT replaced the hose clamps nor have I policed the hose ends. That will come. The AAV passes filtered and metered air around the butterfly in the throttle body. Doing so is no different from cracking the throttle open a little - except that it more easily controlled by engine temperature this way. Overall temperature controls the amount of extra air. That heat may be conducted from the coolant tank to the AAV, or the heating coil in the AAV may heat the valve. Either way, heat reduces the the extra air. When I examined the AAV and tested it, it performed perfectly. It just wasn't working. I tested voltage at the connector. It supplied 12 volts. Upon examination of the connector I realized that one contact in the connector was deformed. It wasn't making contact with the valve's electrical pin! All air supply for idle increase was controlled by the coolant tank heat, not the electrical element. I reformed the contact to its original shape and carefully connected it to the AAV, putting the system back in correct operation.Next step is to clean and re-plumb the warm-up regulator. More on that later as I have to buy some parts first. Here are some more pictures just for fun. Here's another look at the AAV reinstalled, http://www.aubard.us/Mondial/HPIM1353.JPG .Here are a couple of looks at the throttle body, http://www.aubard.us/Mondial/HPIM1354.JPG and http://www.aubard.us/Mondial/HPIM1355.JPG . Obviously, none of this has been cleaned. I've started cleaning the fuel distributor, http://www.aubard.us/Mondial/HPIM1349.JPG . Because the ignition is next in the queue after the FI, here are couple of pictures of the plug wire jackets - and their incorrect routing, http://www.aubard.us/Mondial/HPIM1356.JPG and http://www.aubard.us/Mondial/HPIM1357.JPG . In the first image you can see where I wiped the cam cover with degreaser leaving a little peek at how nicely it will look once cleaned properly. And lastly, I realized just how badly the air box looked. It was badly stained and the logo silk screen was mostly gone. Here's how it looked, http://www.aubard.us/Mondial/HPIM1320.JPG and how it looks now, http://www.aubard.us/Mondial/HPIM1351.JPG and http://www.aubard.us/Mondial/HPIM1352.JPG after cleaning and painting. And in this view you can see that I am waiting for new hose clamps on the air hose, http://www.aubard.us/Mondial/HPIM1348.JPG . I'll see to that tomorrow. I have seen a Mondial where the owner bought one of those vinyl Ferrari logos and applied it tastefully to the air box cover (replacing the silk screen). Hummmmm? That's it gang. A little progress. Slow, careful progress. rick
