Methinks snake oil.

Yup. Sounds like one of the millions of ideas that sound great in theory, work fine in a computer simulation, work OK in a crude prototype but fails when real-world testing is done. I've read in automotive magazines several times about brilliant new engine concepts that looked great as a prototype but went nowhere after a manufacturer ponied up the bucks for proper testing.

I couldn't find a decent cutaway drawing. I fail to see how the pistons
are connected to any sort of connecting rod. It appears that maybe
the pistons are connected to a disk that penetrates the torus wall.
If so, how is this sealed?

Take a look at his website (www.angellabsllc.com), there is a copy of his patent application with drawings and such. I believe the pistons are attached to two rotating disks which are then connected to the crankshaft. I'm no engineer either, but I guess sealing surfaces in the combustion chamber and lubricating the bearings of the complex crankshaft would be problematical. Since he hasn't produced test engines that are running on fuel, I'd take his claims of efficiency, power production, etc with a very large grain of salt.

That said, if I had a couple of million laying around, I'd be inclined to spend a bit to get some prototypes running on fuel to validate his claims. Never know, it could be the next big thing.
