Hey Rick -I know what you mean about the 850 - a cool little car. I used to work on them and remember how difficult it was to work on that engine with the small engine lid. Oh well....
I got hooked when I was 13 or 14 - found a copy of Sports Car Graphic - the cover was filled with the logos of various foreign cars wnd the inside was filled with the lastest versions. Ever since I was hooked on the beauty of sport cars. I;m still upset with the govt for the 1968 laws that forced the XKE to remove the headlight covers - and other stuff of course. Since then the govt has become more & more the designed of cars. I always felt there should have been relief for low volumn producers. IIRC there was something added a few years ago to help small manufacturers.
But this isn't about govt - ever since those days when I 1st discovered sports cars I went out of my way to see them. I used to walk to Jr. HS - 5 miles each way - uphill each way - 3' of snow, yada, yada -- but on the way was one of the few sports car dealerships in town. It was a combo Trumph, Volvo, Toyota, MG & Fiat - I'd look thru the showroom glass and dream. So many gorgeous shapes. MY favorite in the late 60s was the Fiat 124 Sports Coupe - the convertible got all the attention and had the staying power but the coupe looked like a little Maserati (IMO) with it's large greenhouse and 5 spd gearbox.
Anyway - I hope everyone is enjoying the 24 H of Daytona - great race - Sincerely, Larry T (74 911, 91 300D 2.5T) www.youroil.net Oil Analysis Kits & Porsche Posters/Weber parts Test Results - http://members.rennlist.com/oil/ http://www.scamfreetop10.com/1233.htmle .----- Original Message ----- From: "Rick Lindsay" <rolindsay [at] yahoo.com>

Jeff wrote,1972 Chevy Vega, first car, paid 100.00 had a 2 speed semi-automatic and used as much oil as gas. 1976 Alfa Spider *, 'first'real' car, still have it although it is in a million pieces and doubt I'll ever put it back together...Jeff's note begs the question: When did we go for the first real sports car, and with which car?My first car was a 1931 Model A ford, then a '63 Chevy, then a '68 Camaro, and then it happened. It was 1970. I saw this incredibly beautiful Fiat 850 Spyder on a used car lot. Within a day it was mine. It was a piece of s#!t (because of non-existent maintenance) but it was a real SPORTS CAR! Been hooked every since.Rick _________________________________________________________________ To unsubscribe or modify your subscription options, please visit: http://lists.ferrarilist.com/mailman/options/ferrari/l02turner%40comcast.net Sponsored by BooyahMedia.com and F1 Headlineshttp://www.F1Headlines.com/
