Hey Britt -
We owned & enjoyed (and worked on) a 63 Spitfire (red) ;-) which I also
learned a bit about mechanics. I even taught
my wife how to fix it if it stopped for some reason - she had to remove the
fuel line and hold it near the ground
until fuel came out - then she could reattach it and take off.

The 66 MGB replaced it - don't know if you ever had a 60s MGB but it was
much better put together than the
Spitfire - kind of like the difference between the MGB and the AH 3000 with
the AH being a step above the B.
Above the AH was the XKE. To go above the XKE you had to get into German and
Italian stuff (Porsche and
Ferrari in case anyone is wondering) ;-).

Back to the Spitfire - the Coupe version was an awesome car - kind of a
baby XKE in many ways. It had an
Overdrive tranny, 6 cyl engine and was a fast and comfortable cruiser. I
regret I never owned one - but I may rectify
that one day -

IAC, those kinds of sports cars are long gone - only the Brits could build
that kind of basic sports car - and
the govt auto designers will never allow those kinds of basic cars to be built
again.

    Have a nice week -

Sincerely,

I wonder how many Listers ever had the joy of owning a Triumph Spitfire? I
bought one in 1988 (1975 model) and had it for 6 years in Florida (until I
moved to the UK). I learned auto mechanics on the car and over 60k miles (that
I put on it) I was never left stranded, not once! Several 1000+ mile trips.

Loved that car. My favourite along with the 328GTS.

Moved to the UK, thought I would get another one, looked at the weather and
though NO WAY!

  Regards
  Britt
