Hey Bubba - Muroc was in the olden days - just as you painted it. Today, in
just about the same area, SCTA does their thing at El Mirage. Same kinda
lake bed. Located between Victorville and Palmdale.
About 18 years ago I had an Interview in Victorville . You know, three piece suit meeting with a bunch of docs. Afterwards, on my way home going towards the coast, I fancy a side trip up to El Mirage - maybe they're doing something interesting.
Went in at the East end, normal the finish run off - nuthin going on - wait - WAAAAy down at the West end - the start - I see some activity. So me, my one year old white '90 Mercury Cougar and my blue vest and suit pants drive on down. Takes about 10 minutes to get there. By this time, all activity has stopped and gathered around their half dozen pick ups and motor homes. They were parasailing. I stop, get out - as 30 sets of eyes are watching me - assuming they all have two good eyes, and ask - Which way to San Francisco? They sorta point North and I leave. Heh heh
Gawd that dust on the Cougar was like make up face powder. The only stuff I have ever seen finer was at Tecate Go Kart race where dust got in-between the elements of my camera lens.
Onward DOUGBig clubs are the Gear Grinders, Side Winders, SDRC, Rod Riders, Road Runners, et al.

Hey Paul: The Salt Flats guys always think positive. Why take the time andtrouble to fabricate and install padding if you're not going to crash, right?I never got to Bonneville, but used to go to Murock Dry Lakes out on theMojave on occasion. The So. Cal. Timing Assn. used to have runs out there, andthey were interesting to say the least. My favorites were the old P-51 drop-tank Lakesters with a huge bored out OHV V-8s stuffed inside the rear and a wheel at each corner. Nothing more. With Go-Kart like suspension, they were clocked at well over 200 MPH. How did the drivers fit inside the damn thing with those two huge stones getting in theway? <g> The lake-bed was smooth as a billiard table and had the consistency of cement. I know. I took a spill out there once, riding my 250cc ex-Works CZMotocrosser. (My mother worked for the U.S. Suzuki competition dept, and they soldit to me for $400. Long story). But, unlike the Salt Flats guys, I had prepared for any eventuality, andworn my leathers. I'd seen too many other Kenny Roberts wanna-be's, clad in only shorts and a tee shirt being hauled off in the ambulance after a failed EvilKnievel type jump. Anybody out there remember Rocket Rex Staton? Ach, the memories, yer pal Ferrari Bubba In a message dated 2/12/2009 8:43:40 P.M. Central Standard Time, _pbennett [at] macnet.com_ (mailto:pbennett [at] macnet.com) I found two pictures fascinating, underbonnet front end details and the driver's seat. Crude aluminum plates no padding. _________________________________________________________________ To unsubscribe or modify your subscription options, please visit: http://lists.ferrarilist.com/mailman/options/ferrari/red5hilser%40aol.com Sponsored by BooyahMedia.com and F1 Headlines http://www.F1Headlines.com/**************Nothing says I love you like flowers!
