Dr. Steve sez ". . .The track requires a special skill set that is not usually acquired by drivers on the street, but are also not necessary and rarely used by them."

Nice write up Dr. Steve - per usual. Quite a stable and quite a breadth. Ahem, um, my response to the above statement would be - the number of times I made a spinal cord reaction to a bad situation driving in Los Angeles - off the freeways (where on the weekend half the cars are not registered because they can't pass smog check or afford insurance) has saved my bacon many times.

I attribute that to many hours time trialing and track practice, um, many years ago, now that I reflect back on those halcyon days. Nevertheless - I enjoy driving and try to stay sharp - no on/off gas pedal, sea-sick movements. I try to be smooth in the turn entrances and exits, and now all of this is done under the speed limits, on normal streets.

As Dan Gurney once said to a reporter who asked him how often he practiced - he responded - every time I get in a car - and I don't have to go fast to do it. But then there were times that the clatter of mental rosary beads were louder than the squeal of tires - but I have never heard of him involved in an off track crash. Maybe he has - heh heh
