But the fun is making your "soul machine" the daily driver! BTW, I
drove an IS-F as the local dealer had two that they couldn't give away.
Just wanted to see what they were about and compare them to the C63 AMG
Mercedes that I bought in Aug. And as I expected they were too
"Japanese" in driving feel, lackluster interior quality for wood and
plastics, kind of a disconnected feel when driving.
The Benz has better styling, it's faster, sounds phenomenal, and has
overall better build quality. Back in 1989/1990 when Lexus came out
with the LS400 sedan they heavily marketed the fact that their cars were
$20,000 less than an S-class Mercedes. But drive both back to back and
you would have easily understood and appreciated what the extra $20K
brought to the table.

I kinda like some of Toyota's hybrid motors....their Highlander V6 hybrid and their Lexus GS V8 hybrid. The Lexus IS-F with the 8 speed auto is also interesting as well....I think credit must be given to Lexus for adding some bark to their lineup as of late. The soul argument is most applicable when one is limited to one car all around; once you have several soul machines, you can look into making your daily drivers and/or sedans more "practical". :) FG On Tue, Feb 24, 2009 at 6:37 PM, Mike Fleischer <themightytoe [at] gmail.com>wrote:See now I can't argue either point here... The only thing worse I think are the poor saps who spend even more for a Lexus, which is just a jar of white paste with some golden sparkles in it or elevator music in stereo or diet decaffeinated coke ONE... The splenda of the car world... You paid more, but got the same no soul... My God how I loathe driving it, even though its quiet, smooth, closes up like a vault and gets me there with a minimum of fuss, is easy to load and unload, kids like it, and it never hiccups even a little bit... Hateful Soulless thing, makes me want to drill a pinhole in an oil line so it leaves a bit on the garage floor... Ergo, they ride in a Toyota Highlander.
