Nice! I'm going to go just so I know what I missed out on a few years ago when
my friends went every year to party at the big swing dance event. Though it
won't be the same especially the "swing" part. sigh.

I am proud to say I have been kicked out of Luau Larrys in Avalon on
Catalina :) The island is pretty dead during the winter months, thus if you
want quiet, go there during a weekday. There are more fellow vacationers on
weekends, which makes for a more lively time. Check the Casino website for
any activities during your stay, they have random dances and blues/jazz
festivals.

Twin Harbors is a group of small rooms down the island from Avalon, and is
mostly frequented by the boat party crowd. There is no real city
infrastructure, just a bar and small grocery store with a few rooms for
rent.

Enjoy!

Hey gang, I thought of no better place to ask advice on traveling somewhere
than this well-heeled group. I'm going to visit Mom this week in Phoenix
and then see some of my business partners in Palm Springs, Huntington Beach,
Long Beach and then finish up some business in Scottsdale next week. I'm
taking Mom with me to visit the SoCal clan on the weekend and we were
thinking of hitting Catalina Island. It's been on my list for many years
and I missed going to special events there during my dancing days. Any
advice for this round trip from Phoenix and back? Mom is having me rent a
car instead of using hers since I tend to destroy most anything I drive even
for a short trip... Weather there is better than anything in Chicago right
now. We are up for adventure. Mom taught me how to "party" (scary thought
about mom for those that know me already).

Thanks.
