I just did this last spring myself - in my case, it was easily a whole-weekend job for two reasons - one, you'll want to replace the pulleys with metal-ones with ball-bearing axles to greatly reduce friction on the steel cable. And two, I found it necessary to soak the old-greased fittings overnight so I could brush the crap out of the pulley teeth the next morning, wash, dry, re-lube the parts, and then practice re-spooling the cables so they wind/unwind correctly according to their orientation in the door. Plus, if you're installing electricals to 'support' the existing motors, that might take some time to 'finagle' the connectivity the way you want it. On one particularly bad afternoon, I had to un-tangle and re-spool a door window cable five times until I got it right. Notice I didn't say anything about re-cutting and re-hanging the nylon water-shields behind the leather and fiberglass door panels, or the one that's 'supposed' to hang inside the door frame itself to protect your window motor and your stereo speakers from water that runs down the door glass when you wash the car....mine were missing. I shoulda made patterns for distribution.....oh well. I know Verell and others claim to do this job in a single day - they LIED to me. LOL. Anywho, I won't be able to come down until at least after the 16th of May. But if you push it later, I can come down and help. Well, I did get replies from Lashdeep, Scott Carpenter, and George Parker, but I had told them all about the idea prior to posting it on f-chat. Any interest from f-list? If not, I'll just do this job in my driveway. -matt ******************** All, I plan to host a technical session in the next month or two or so. Topic is going to focus on window motors/mechanism. I have done this on my car before but it is slow again, so I intend to take one (or both) windows and assemblies out, clean the gunk out, put in new grease, get everything lined up properly (this is my present worst problem), and I also have bought the window accelerators from Ricambi and will put these in. Time permitting, I will investigate the power lock problems I have by starting with taking out the passenger door locking mechanism (I need to study this more to make sure I know what I'm getting into) and cleaning grease out of that, too. Probably won't get to it, but I also have Birdman's fuseblocks to install. Perhaps you might want to do the same on the same day, or maybe you just want to observe so you can decide if you want to do it on your own. Or maybe you just want to come hang out. I plan to host this at the Classic Car Center in Fredericksburg, VA (http://www.classiccarcenter.net/). The Classic Car Center is a storage facility for classic cars, and they also service classic cars. Always a nice variety of cars on consignment and in active storage. It is located just a couple miles off I95 midway between DC and Richmond. They have graciously volunteered to help by hosting this event! Plan for the day would be a fairly early start with coffee and donuts. Work until lunch, then go for a nice backroad drive and lunch (and ice cream at Carl's). Follow up with the afternoon continuing/finishing work. The event will take place on a Saturday, on either 4 April, 11 April, 25 April, or 16 May. Should I rule out any of these dates that should be ruled out due to already scheduled FCA or other events? Who would be interested? I just planned to do this myself in the garage, but thought others might be interested in joining in. -Matt '85 Euro 308 GTS/QV _________________________________________________________________ To unsubscribe or modify your subscription options, please visit: http://lists.ferrarilist.com/mailman/options/ferrari/cavallino_rapante%40yahoo.com Sponsored by BooyahMedia.com and F1 Headlines http://www.F1Headlines.com/
