Yeah but if you do that you might as well just get a stretched Fiero chassis as the Ferrari one probably would not hold up to the extra torque!

I think this has been done......

The real problem is not so much as *if it will fit*, but rather
the logistical issues.

For those of us who have seen the 308 series engines and
transfer gears down to the gearbox, you will wonder how
a bell-housing and gear assembly would be constructed to
accomplish this.  Not impossible, but very difficult.  However,
given the determination of all the rabid gearheads around,
I'm sure that thought has been given to solving these issues.......
