I remember reading in R&T about 20 years ago, about a guy who put a V12 Daytona engine in a 308. I think there were even plans floating aroundawhile ago for such a swap. I went out and took some rough measurements. LS6 - 27 x 22 x 22 (inches) 308 - 30 x 27 x 27 (inches)Motor only, not bellhousing. LS6 includes the plastic covers. Take them off, and the measurements would be less. 308 does not include the headers, which would have increased the measurements. Measurements are approximate.Of course, your results may vary. LS6 is much smaller. Twice the displacement. Twice the horsepower. It may be a pig, but I still love my 308. It only had 3.0 liters, but dimensionallyit was immense and not so impressive. Modern engines are much smaller and lighter/bhp of output. Well, some modern engines. The BMW inline 6 used in so many models is also huge and heavy. IIRC, a 250 Ferrari is 250cc's percylinder making it a 3.0L engine. I have a hard time picturing 250CC's but 3L is 50% larger than a 2L Coke bottle. Getting several hundred HP from such a small displacement alwaysed amazed me. Must have been pretty small pistons though. If my math was better (or if I wanted to spend the time tofigure it out) I could probably calculate the OD of the pistons -- ;-) LarryT ----- Original Message ----- From: "Hans E. Fits quite well. He has to cut a bit off the front springs because the V8 is lighter. Hans. Many of the cute, little, impressively "efficient" powerplants are secretly massive and heavy. Remember that 944 Turbo? It seemed so "high tech" next to a Ferrari until you photographed theengine bay near a tape measure._________________________________________________________________ To unsubscribe or modify your subscription options, please visit:http://lists.ferrarilist.com/mailman/options/ferrari/l02turner%40comcast.netSponsored by BooyahMedia.com and F1 Headlines http://www.F1Headlines.com/LarryT Porsche Posters!!
