The Alfa V6 was (and is) a very nice engine, unfortunately the 164 however, is a lousy automobile. Although nice when everything is working as it should (which isn't often), they are a major PITA to work on and keep going. The 4 cam version as used in the LS is truly amazing, however it is virtually impossible to keep the cams in time, as the belt tension needs to be reset every 10,000 miles if you want to keep the rear-most cam from jumping a tooth or two, which makes the idle real crappy. Resetting the cam timing on the transverse V6 is not fun, and especially so on the 4 cam version. But the 164 owners (ok one in particular) not only help keep me from starving, but allow me to eat quite well :-) And, don't even get me started on parts availability (or lack thereof), sigh. They have a similar layout, are beautiful and provide similar performance. While I would not rush out to do this conversion, they have been installed in Lancia Stratos reproductions and would be sensible alternative to keeping a Ferrari or Lamborghini on the road if there were no engines/transmissions available for these. I had a 164 and I loved that engine and transmission, a real delight to drive. I think these were fantastic V6 engines. _________________________________________________________________ To unsubscribe or modify your subscription options, please visit: http://lists.ferrarilist.com/mailman/options/ferrari/mmanzo%40sbcglobal.net Sponsored by BooyahMedia.com and F1 Headlines http://www.F1Headlines.com/ _________________________________________________________________ To unsubscribe or modify your subscription options, please visit: http://lists.ferrarilist.com/mailman/options/ferrari/coyote%40acme-ltd.com Sponsored by BooyahMedia.com and F1 Headlines http://www.F1Headlines.com/
