Hey Jim -I was pondering the deal you descibed and wondered how the engine disappeared. I would *assume* the orig engine died and he either sold it at the time or let the guy who installed the V8 keep it. Seems odd to keep the tranny and rear but not the engine -
Great story though - I saw a similar car near Hopewell NJ - sitting in the weeds slowly becoming a planter ith bits of fresh greenery coming from all openings - I thought aout buying it but as usual I already had too many projects -
I must admit though, the part of NJ we lived in (near Princeton) had all kinds of sports car shops and cars stashed away here and there - they seemed much more visible at least. Maybe the nearby univ had something to do with it?
It was sad to see all those exotics slowly disappearing - maybe the boom of the 80s got them back on the road?

The guy who is re-doing my door panels and center console just bought a gorgeous 250GTE with a crate motor in it. He has the original tranny/overdrive but the motor is missing. The PO installed the American V8. He got a helluva deal on it and will eventually locate a 250 motor, but in the mean time will have a very dependable and most excellent 250.Jim Sent from my BlackBerry® smartphone with SprintSpeed -----Original Message----- From: "LarryT" <l02turner [at] comcast.net> Date: Sat, 11 Apr 2009 11:14:38 To: JIM<jimshadow [at] verizon.net> Cc: The FerrariList<ferrari [at] ferrarilist.com> Subject: Re: [Ferrari] NFC: On the topic of Chevy V8's... Hi Gang - I always wondered why people got all upset when someone puts a American V8 into a foreign car. It seems like the pefect marriage. The foriegn component usually provides outstanding suspension (usually) great build quality, lots of design variety, etc while the American engine is dependable, very available, has a huge parts availibility many engine configurations and options and cheap for what you get. Plus, you have the history of having created some true automobileicons - the Cobra is the best known along with the Tiger. People have been putting V8s in Jags for years as well as 911s - although the radiators causeproblems and you lose the small back seat. Now, having said all of that I'm conflicted because I know the amount ofunique engineering that is built into such engines as MB, Jag, Porsche,Ferrari, etc. I suspect the number of Ferrari's with American V8 is almostnil because of the huge lose in value that would occur. I've considered putting a American V8 in something like a 500/560SEL Mercedes cause there's lots around for less than $2K with "engine needs work". MB parts are *very* expensive so it might make sense if the engineering to make it happen isn't too complex. LarryT Porsche Posters!!
