Thanks, Wade. When the dealers are going out of business, there will 

always be a place for the independents like you. I'd rather take my 

business to people like you and T. Rutlands rather having to be talked 

down to the stuck-up people at some of the dealers.

Especially being saddled with a lowly GT4 (the shame of it all, 'eh, 

cLyDe?). Tom and I remember one place in Tucson (not a dealer) that said 

that they prefered to only service REAL Ferraris. That was the last time 

they ever got one more penny from me.

I am glad the dealers take this approach, it keeps me in business. I still

can do a major on a 308/328 for less than $3500  and 348/355/Testa where 

the

engine comes out I can come in around $7500
I currently am servicing an 85 308 an  87 328 and doing an annual on an 05
430 plus two restorations

Let the dealers turn down and alienate the 3x8 owners ,  more for me

Unless we're talking a Daytona or a 246, cars whose Book/Market-Value have

actually kept pace with their service costs, then it doesn't make sense

the Dealerships to support these cars. The margins of bringing a used-car

to Dealership standards for the resale market, and allowing the Dealership

to make a profit selling such a car just isn't there. It almost doesn't

have to LOVE the car to justify writing a $15,000 check for service on a
$30K car....most people won't do that. Why can't I be "most people"......

Just look at the labor-rates in Ferrari Service from the early 1980s to

today - can anyone legitimately justify paying today's Dealer labor rate 

on

a 308 whose value is near full-depreciation? A "Major Service" used to 

cost

$3,500 for everything. Now its over $5,000 and climbing - the parts-prices
are the same, its the labor that's climbing. We're not talking Honda labor
rates here......we're talking 360/430/612/599/Enzo labor-rates on a $30K
car....nobody is pro-rating their labor charges based on book-value of the
machine they're working-on....I wish they did but they won't.

More or less none of them do. Been like that for a while. The older
cars are studies in deferred maintenance, the dealers don't want the
hassle of having to go through a car for a smaller margin. It's a
time versus effort thing with them. But then again, when was the last
time you could get a 10 year old Volvo from your local dealer?
