I agree with Erik! While Clyde is correct that I couldn't recognize
helmets, with that exception Erik and I share all the traits he lists
below and are similarly aged. That's not to say there aren't plenty of
poseurs our age out there, taking advantage of the dismal resale market
that LdM has engineered to promote bling, but there are plenty of
exceptions.

Erik - what year Diablo are you working on? Are you saying the parts are
trash or the cars are trash? Just curious since mine is a '99 and has
needed absolutely nothing since I've owned it, as opposed to my '98 355
spider which has been the kind of money pit people often think of when
they think Ferrari maintenance. My experience is that the Diablo is
considerably better engineered and built than a similar vintage Ferrari.
Then again, by '99 it was at the end of its run and had had hundreds of
improvements over the years.

Come on Clyde, this is the Flist, there are no stereotypes, we're all
just exceptions to the normal rules.

I'm 35 (yes, a wee pup) and got into the hobby in '97. Yes, I remember
when you could get almost any car off the showroom floor. I remember
when the world tour car came through Atlanta (and even have the book).
I know the chassis numbers of my cars from memory (18759, 39343, and
47071). I have spent hours with 002C and 0846*. I keep track of most
of the cars pre s/n 999 and the F1 chassis numbers. Per Gerald Roush
and Dave Seibert's rules, I'm probably the youngest DINOsaur out there.

I have parts everywhere in my garage trying to replace the clutch in my
308 at home, on my own lift, with my own tools. There is a Diablo in my
driveway that I am troubleshooting (and came up with a list of $4200
worth of parts that it needs, and by god they are trash).

The real fans are still out there, we shy away from the bling crowd, but
we're still out there.

Cheers,
Erik
