There are parallel universes - 
Take for instance Indy cars or Champ Car as the class was known.
USAC, in the late 70's, splits into CART, 
CART become CART PPG Indy Car
CART then adds FedEx to their name
IRL for Indy Racing League sprouts up in here someplace
Then CART becomes CART powered by Ford World Series or something like that
Then goes broke and remerges with IRL.
