I decided to buy a new group 49 battery (100 A-H) for the A8 since its existing one is getting on in years. I made up two cable sets to connect the new group 49 battery and the almost new Jeep battery to the existing group 49 battery in the Audi's trunk. Also, I'll pull the battery from the boat and bring it along as a bit of extra insurance. I just wish I knew what the amps draw was while running.

That may be enough! Good luck!

Thnx Ken. I plan to pull the battery from my Jeep and carry it along as a spare. It's new and fairly large. Btw, the A8 has a group 49 battery (100 amp reserve rating) but it's about 5 years old.

Martin I tried to research this for you on the web. Depends on battery condition of course. Median answer (not Audi specific) is about 90 minutes with all accessories off. You will kill the battery as well.

Hope this is of some help, it looks like a long shot imho.

I'm about 2 1/2 hrs. away from home and my 1998 A8's alternator has
failed. I have access to a battery charger and time to charge the
battery overnight. My question is about how many amps does the A8 draw
when running at highway speed with headlights off and no unnecessary
accessories?
