you asked <<what other of these car movies were great movies?>.Like you said first in your response - depends on what is being used to rate them. "LeMans", probably the greatest sports car racing scenes of all time (mostly because so much was real) but the plot was almost non-existant. "Grand Prix" had lots of racing - much of which was staged using well crafted replica's, along with some video of the real deal, but the plot was there, even if it was kind of soapy. Both had unrealistic verbage - like the guy in LM who was replaced by S McQueen during the final laps since SM was faster - the guy being replaced acted surprised, but you can bet *everyone* driving knows exactly how fast they are along with all those around him.
"Ronin" was a very good mix of plot and action, "Gumball Rally" was comedy and great sounding engines but almost no plot. Bullitt was excellent IMO.
Anyway, I know what you mean. IMHO, I'd rather watch the great sports car action of "LeMans " than anything else. One of the highlights of LM was the sound tracks used which were actually from the Porsches and Ferrari's that were racing

Death Proof While I agree in general I don't like the order - I'd probably have put LeMans 1st and Gumball Rally 2nd, then Grand Prix, Ronin, and the rest. What are we ranking these car movies on? Their merit as a movie itself or just the car action? If it's the latter then I really can't get into ranking lots of these movies.... But as far as the former, Bullitt and Ronin were great movies. Sure they just happen to have 2 of the best chase sequences of all time, but they're not fast forwards to get to those scenes either.I recently saw Bullitt in it's entirety for the first time on the big screenat Lincoln Center as part of a film society event honoring Steve McQueen films. Been to many of these before and it's not a car person crowd by any chance...Everyone loved it....they applauded at the end of chase sequence, and at theend of the film. It really was great. I'm curious what other of these car movies were great movies?
