Hi Gang -I generally agree with few limits on F1 and LM Prototypes (the top of the sport), especially as relates to engine type & size, wheelbase, etc. The only things I like to see limited are the electronic aids even if they are cheap and available to all teams. Things like traction control and launch control reduce the skill the drivers need to control the car - for instance, with traction control many corners are taken with foot to the floor while the software applies brakes to the wheels that start to break loose(I'm sure it's more complicated than that) - same with launch control - foot to the floor until the light turns green then release a button. I don't call that ultimate driving skill.
I won't say I'm against paddle shifts - but if you watch a video from the pre-paddle days of a top flight F1 car going around Monaco or Spa on a high speed run all the while steering with one hand and shifting with the other and you might see why I prefer manual shifts. But for road cars paddle shifts are great IMHO.
I guess I'd have to say I'm "for" no mechanical limits and "against" no software limits. Also, the software enhancements are easily outwitted by good injun-ears.

What I believe Rick (not speaking for Rick) is trying to say 'Get the best drivers AND put them in the best cars, not limited by artificial limits ie say we have 3 litre limit (ok - we do have to have some limit) but the manufactures can build 3, 4 ~16 cylindars, active suspension or not, aero dynamics to win the race.I remember when Ferrari came out with paddle shifters, at a time when Manselcould not get his engine to the end of the race. Demostrating my lack of vision I said ' To finish 1st, first you have to finish', what I did not realize at the time this would evolve to ending missed shifts and over reving the engine. Now you can buy street cars with active suspension and paddle shifters. ButF1 has banned active suspension and paddle shifters were going to be eliminated a long with other drivers aids.. FISI to FerrariIt is what Fisi has always wanted. Up until Spa I would agree that FIas aperennial out of the points runner would have seen little effect from losing him. I think this year has really brought home what a difference "the car" makes. Last year you could easily have put Rubens and Jenson in the list of "perennial out of the points runner". I think we are seeing that all the drivers are very close and the product they sit in can make or break them(apply the converse to Ferrari and McLaren during the first part of theseason). And although I have my favorites, I HATE the idea of a Driver's Series.F the drivers. I want to see technology in F1 and the recent trends are pushing it towards the boredom that was CART and is IRL and NASCRAP. Sorry, I'm not fooled by the different colored decals. Trim back the rules to displacement and wheel base, dump the budget cuts, release the hounds!!! <soap box mode off> Rick _________________________________________________________________ To unsubscribe or modify your subscription options, please visit: http://lists.ferrarilist.com/mailman/options/ferrari/sherman%40wildblue.net Sponsored by BooyahMedia.com and F1 Headlines http://www.F1Headlines.com/_________________________________________________________________ To unsubscribe or modify your subscription options, please visit: http://lists.ferrarilist.com/mailman/options/ferrari/rentiers%40mail.com Sponsored by BooyahMedia.com and F1 Headlines http://www.F1Headlines.com/_________________________________________________________________ To unsubscribe or modify your subscription options, please visit: http://lists.ferrarilist.com/mailman/options/ferrari/l02turner%40comcast.net Sponsored by BooyahMedia.com and F1 Headlineshttp://www.F1Headlines.com/
