Oh I agee - personally I would go further: safety regs excepted I would just pick one parameter like a limit on liters of fuel and let them run one cylinder or seventeen, open or closed bodywork and so on. Early NASCAR was fun because they raced STOCK cars (kinda) Oldsmobiles were really Oldsmobiles and so on. Who cares if generic car A beats generic car B because they had more shims in the springs on the R hand rear.

What I believe Rick (not speaking for Rick) is trying to say 'Get the best drivers AND put them in the best cars, not limited by artificial limits ie say we have 3 litre limit (ok - we do have to have some limit) but the manufactures can build 3, 4 ~16 cylindars, active suspension or not, aero dynamics to win the race.

I remember when Ferrari came out with paddle shifters, at a time when Mansel could not get his engine to the end of the race. Demostrating my lack of vision I said ' To finish 1st, first you have to finish', what I did not realize at the time this would evolve to ending missed shifts and over reving the engine.

Now you can buy street cars with active suspension and paddle shifters. But F1 has banned active suspension and paddle shifters were going to be eliminated a long with other drivers aids..

I have to agree with Rick.
Technology is what seperates F1 from the rest (I Run Last).

It is what Fisi has always wanted. Up until Spa I would agree that FI as
a
perennial out of the points runner would have seen little effect from
losing
him.

I think this year has really brought home what a difference "the car"
makes.
Last year you could easily have put Rubens and Jenson in the list of "perennial out of the points runner". I think we are seeing that all the drivers are very close and the product they sit in can make or break them (apply the converse to Ferrari and McLaren during the first part of the
season).

And although I have my favorites, I HATE the idea of a Driver's Series. F the drivers. I want to see technology in F1 and the recent trends are pushing it towards the boredom that was CART and is IRL and NASCRAP.
Sorry,
I'm not fooled by the different colored decals.

Trim back the rules to displacement and wheel base, dump the budget cuts,
release the hounds!!!
