IMHO, It's the honest people who make mistakes they put the fear of God into - then they hunt them down relentlessly.

Claim a deduction not deserved and you'll be hit with penalties and interest.

Don't file for 5 years (like a politician might do) and they don't catch it.

I was told long ago that I should either keep meticulous records or none at all.
