I would agree - however, 308s being 'cheap' cars, I could very-well end up
buying a car with a similar set of issues due to neglect, 'sitting', or abuse.
Fixing these cars has always been expensive, and owners seem to go to great
lengths to avoid having to pay the money necessary to get these cars properly
serviced.  Lets face it - the reason I have a bad engine is because the
PREVIOUS owner didn't want to fix it...but he knew it had issues when he sold
it to me.  This overheating issue pre-dates my ownership, and if the PO had the
stones to pull the motor and fix the problem, I wouldn't be dealing with this
now.  It was passed-on to me, never correctly diagnosed by anyone, or excused
as 'all 308s run alittle hot'.

The cost associated with re-building an engine to factory-correct specs isn't
the labor - roughly 100 hours.  The cost is because of the parts.  Parts prices
are high right now, and there's no getting-away from it.  Some of the items can
be substituted by 'aftermarket' vendors such as the piston rings and pistons -
I have a LOT of choices there, and are cheap considering.  Things like
bearings, cylinder liners and gaskets, however, I don't have choices.  The
gaskets are an 'understood' thing - they don't last forever, they eventually
leak, they need to be replaced.  The engine is completely broken-down, so its a
great time to do it all and do it correctly...the future will be interesting.

Cheaper to buy another 308 than buy all those parts.
