Larry, Couple of things. It doesn't take a Ferrari master mechanic to properly diagnose a failed 02 sensor. For something Ferrari-specific, maybe, but not that. If you were in no need of the car (could drive something else in the meantime) you probably could have thanked them for their estimate, done some research, and come up with a cheaper solution and/or maybe found a good independent that could be a second opinion on this and other subsequent things that you are concerned with. I bet Brian at least would be able to come up with either the part number (where the old 02 sensor might have been valuable, or at least the box for the new one) and from there you just either find one at a lesser price (or not). Heck, we've both read of Ferraris with Fiat door handles, etc., etc. It would be a cool academic exercise, at this point, but if anyone can supply the Bosch p/n and/or application guide, would be neat to know where it could be purchased and for how much. And, if anyone knows of a good independent in Larry's area, maybe Larry could call around and ask about prices, whether or not they'd install owner purchased parts, etc. Tom ---- Larry B <larrybard [at] hotmail.com> wrote: > > I'm sure they would have given me the old sensor if I had asked for it -- but > frankly I don't know what the point would have been; it's not as if the > defect would have been apparent, and I while I obviously am not pleased with > the price, I don't have any reason to doubt their honesty or competence > (which is another subject altogether; I know there are lots of totally > competent independents, but someone else mentioned to me that this dealer has > 4 Ferrari master mechanics -- of the total of 30 in the entire U.S.). > > > > And if I were sure in advance that the problem was an O2 sensor, perhaps I > would have tracked down the part, for a more modest price, and had some > competent independent install it.
