The "diagnosis" of a pre-OBDII Ferrari with a MIL (Check Engine Lamp) can usually be done by counting the flashing of the MIL after you enter a special mode. On BMW's this is done by whacking the pedal a specific # of times. I believe on the Ferrari of the same era there is a button (switch) that needs to be connected to some connector near the ecus and depressed for a specific amount of time to yield a series of CARB-mandated codes.
